Nicholas L. Ramirez
Nicholas Ramirez represents businesses and individuals in a variety of matters, including complex commercial litigation, labor and employment disputes, and criminal prosecutions ranging from corporate fraud to attempted murder. Nicholas has also successfully used California’s robust anti-SLAPP statute to defend individuals in frivolous lawsuits asserting claims based on statements and conduct protected under the First Amendment.
Before joining Kabat Chapman & Ozmer’s Los Angeles office, Nicholas was an associate at a criminal defense and civil litigation boutique in Los Angeles. Nicholas also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Thomas M. Durkin in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Nicholas graduated with honors from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and received a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from the University of Arizona.
- Secured summary judgement for a client in a corporate dispute involving multi-million-dollar fraud allegations.
- Represented a general contractor pursuing breach of contract and fraud claims against a property owner, which resulted in a settlement immediately after the Complaint was filed.
- Represented a hospice in connection with criminal charges for insurance fraud, which were subsequently dismissed.
- Obtained a Civil Harassment Restraining Order following an evidentiary hearing for 11 employees harassed by their employer’s former tenant.
- Successfully pursued anti-SLAPP motions to dispose of claims based on conduct protected under the First Amendment, including:
- Representing a mother in anti-SLAPP litigation arising from her online posts about her daughter’s death, resulting in an abandonment of the lawsuit.
- Representing an independent journalist in anti-SLAPP litigation that resulted in the dissolution of a Civil Harassment Restraining Order imposed against the journalist.
